In 1992, four police officers involved in the beating of Rodney King were acquitted of all charges, lighting the fuse for the infamous Los Angeles Riots. During the chaos, gangs and criminals looted businesses and set large parts of the city ablaze. To protect their livelihoods, many Korean American business owners took up arms and stationed themselves on the rooftops of their stores. These brave men came to be known as The Rooftop Koreans.
